Ko te pipi te tuatahi, Ko te kaunuku to tuarua

From small beginnings come great things

Date 29th August  2019                                                                                      No of students: 100

Please send your child on time to school as we are trying to sort out behaviours happening in and out of the classroom.

It has been so cold lately and understand many children are becoming unwell. Please contact the office if your child is going to be away so we can mark as accordingly. If your child is away more than a few days please provide a medical certificate and drop it into the office. We also have our own school nurse who come’s to visit every Tuesday, if you would like your child seen on that day please contact Whaea Miro and she will let the nurse know.

As we continue to have wet conditions at school please be reminded that some of the smaller children might need a change of clothing in their bags as this week a number of children have fallen in the mud.  We do not carry many spare clothes and they are not being returned to school to help other children.  If you have spare pants to offer for these sorts of accidents please send them to the office.

Once again the school will be holding a Mini Gala tomorrow. It will start at 12.30pm.  We have found this event an opportunity to mix and mingle with our growing whanau and it is great to see the parents come and share with the students.

We were donated some awesome bookshelves. If you would like 1 please pop in, they will be displayed at the MIni Gala for you to view.

There will be food, sausage sizzle, as well as a white elephant

Everyone is welcome – parents, caregivers, whānau, and friends

Come and enjoy our mini gala with your child/children

Any baking or donations for our mini gala would be appreciated

Lately we have noticed a lot of children bringing lollies and chewing gum to school. The staff and especially our caretaker Matua Meka who cleans up this mess would appreciate if these items are not brought to school.

Each morning from 8.55 to 9.15-ish we have dancing with our students.  These are modern songs played on the big screen where the children learn steps to help improve their fitness levels.  If you are game enough to come along or stay when you drop your child/ren off you are more than welcome to join in.  We would love to have you with us.  We are inviting Te Toka Ahuru Kohanga Reo and BestStart Waitangirua Kindergarten to bring some of their children along too. Don’t be shy. Come and let your hair down and show us some of your moves. It was so awesome having BestStart join us this morning, We are looking forward to the KIndy joining us tomorrow morning.

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday we have our lovely Whaea Millie cook all our children a warm kai for lunch.  If you would like to help come along from 10am to prep the food and serve it out.  You know the saying ‘more hands make light work’. This venture has been provided to help feed our children and keep them warm.  Unfortunately lately we have had a few lunches stolen from childrens bags and this is not good.  We hope that if children don’t have food that they are brave enough to tell a teacher. We will endeavour to make a sandwich for them.

We have had a few incidents where children are hungry during class time. Our school  provides breakfast every morning which is open from 8am – 8.30am. Whaea Sharlene is more than happy to make the children weetbix or toast so they are all set for a day of learning.

All of Ngake (Year 7 & 8) students have been invited to attend a performance at Takapuwahia Marae tomorrow. The cost will be $5 per person. If your child has permission to attend please sign the forms that were sent home yesterday and return to the office with the $5. We  look forward to seeing some lovely photos in nextweeks newsletter.

Our kids got to learn some awesome skills with Whaea Linda and her energizer Programme on Tuesday. Here are some photos of Pukerau and Rangituhi.

Our students always look forward to their sessions with the Ko Wai Au crew. Yesterday they done Mau rakau. Here are some photo’s of Ngake.
