Ko te pipi te tuatahi, Ko te kaunuku to tuarua

From small beginnings come great things

Week 1 Term 2                         Thursday 2nd May 2019                     School Roll: 87

Welcome back for Term 2

All students at Natone Park School have settled in well and are learning how to problem solve using fractions and statistics, write reports on Tangata Rongonui (Famous People) and improving our reading comprehension.  Children will be researching, using our digital devices, asking questions, completing homework tasks, reading books, gathering information, editing and presenting their work.   We are introducing our Cultural Awareness programme starting with kapahaka every Friday assisted by Whaea Te Rau Oriwa Mitchell.  The school will be attending a free orchestral concert in Week 5 at Te Rauparaha Arena, having a sharing day with Kaumatua and a Pamper Day for Mums and girls and a Breakfast with Dads and Boys. We are starting our sports season this term. The juniors will be playing unihoc, soccer and basketball at the Arena and the Seniors will be playing netball and basketball.

New Enrolments

We would like to welcome Laura Jane Remi to Natone Park School.  She will be in Pukerau with many of her friends and whanau from her Kohanga Reo.

Parent Advisory Meeting

As we move forward into the next phase of improvements for Natone Park School we are still on the prowl and looking for parents and interested parties to help build and sustain our Parent Advisory Board.  Are you willing to set aside 1 hr of your time per month to meet?  Have you got a vested interest in the programmes being run at Natone Park School?  Can you help out in some small way with the improvements being made at our kura for our children?  We welcome you to come and have a look at what we are doing.  The Parent Advisory group will be meeting next Tuesday at 1pm in the Staffroom.  If you are not available yet still interested, let us know at the office.

Property

You may have noticed the work vans parked at our school over the holiday period.  The builders have successfully replaced the quota of windows and completed all paint work too.  Our children have draft free learning spaces and are enjoying the warm cosy areas. The Whare Hui has had an upgrade in the heating system and this too was finished today.  We now await the replacement of the roofing which leaks like a sieve.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Please lock Wednesday 26 June into your diaries as we prepare the Term 2 school reports.  School will be closing at 2pm for interviews and these will finish at 7pm.  A booking sheet request form will be attached to the newsletter.  It will be a first in first served basis.

Winter colds and chills

We ask that children are dressed appropriately for the cold weather presenting.  We have a number of people coming to school with no warm clothing and some are sick.  Please help so as to prevent others from catching any illnesses.

Community Meetings

Are you aware that Waitangirua is in the process of major changes?  There was a Porirua Housing Action Group meeting held last night for the community and we need parents/whanau/friends to attend. It was a good opportunity to find out what it all means for the residence here.  Watch this space for future dates and panui.

Samoan Language Week

Monday May 27 to Friday 31 May we will be participating in cultural activities to celebrate our Samoan heritage.  If you are able to help come down and help up or even share a lunch with us on the Friday let us know.

Mini Gala

Our Mini Gala is due to be held on Friday 24 May at 12.30pm.  We will have a range of food, bric a brac and maybe a few new ideas of items to be sold. We appreciate your support.  If you have anything to contribute to this cause please let your child’s teacher know.

Movin March

Last term we had great support from friends and family who supported our programme to get our children moving in different ways.  We now ask that you complete a survey so that other initiatives will be available for schools to implement.  When filling it out you automatically go into the draw to win a $100 prezzy card.  Give us a call in you need help. Please go to the link: http://inform.gw.govt.nz/MMparentsurvey2019.aspx

Our first game of Netball starts this Saturday. Seniors have forfeited this week due to players not being available but our Junior team game is at 2.20pm on court 4 versing Titahi Bay Red. All the best Juniors.
