KUA TAE KI TE WĀ…..
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend Te Rā Whakamana to help us celebrate. We had a lovely day. To all of our tamariki who were acknowledged for your wonderful contribution to the energy of our school, ngā mihi rawa atu. The following day the rest of our children were acknowledged for the richness they bring to our school life. Thank you to all the staff who made this possible, and to every individual who has taken the time to share some of their magic with us.
In January there will be painters in school giving our Wharehui a well-needed facelift. They will be giving the inside a fresh coat of paint that will brighten up the interior and that will be ready for term one. We look forward to that. Take some time to reflect on the year that was, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for the new year.
Take care of yourselves over the holiday period whānau and keep each other safe.
MURAL CONCEPT – A CULTURAL WHĀRIKI, by Jack Kirifi
It is our absolute pleasure to have this wonderful artwork adorn our school entrance, and I wanted to share with you Jack’s concept for the mural. We will have a series of photos on display in the foyer of the school so that you can see the process as this mural developed.

“The concept of the mural is the interweaving of cultures of students from Natone Park school.
I chose the Whāriki as a concept to symbolise unity of a tightknit whānau in which each whānau member has a role to play in keeping the Whāriki together.
Natone Park School reflects this tightknit whānau in which each culture of its students brings a uniqueness in maintaining the richness of the Whāriki.
I chose to keep the colours of the mural subtle and in keeping with the school’s pastel tones.
Process
The first week was developing cultural patterns with a group of senior students.
Final designs were then used to incorporate on to the mural.
1: Measuring and masking tape the selected wall with students.
2: Chalking up main design
3: Painting base colour
4: Finalising, and clear sealing
I want to thank Ihipera Whakataka for organising this project and the students for sharing their creativity through their designs.
I’ve enjoyed sharing my art with your school and the wider community.
I am grateful to be able to put back in the community through my art.
Fakafetai lahi lele, Thank you so much
Jack Kirifi “
